- Eligibility: SolarMax is available to customers who meet all of the following requirements at the time of sign-up and throughout the plan:
- Residential Elec customer at the supply address;
- Located in an eligible state: NSW / SA / QLD;
- Compatible smart meter installed;
- Please refer to the SolarMax Offer "Your Day of Power" Box above for the details, eligibility criteria and applicable terms for the PowerBreak, Standard FiT Credit, Evening Peak FiT Credit and EV Overnight cheaper rate.
- There is no control load meter part of the Solar Max price plan. If you sign up with control load meter then the usage will be pushed to the Peak meter.
Where two or more benefit periods overlap, the rate most favourable to you will apply. Benefits will not be stacked or applied concurrently (no double benefit).

SolarMax is a time-of-use electricity plan built from the ground up for homes with solar panels and a battery. Instead of paying a flat rate all day, your tariffs move with the sun — so you import free power when solar generation is highest, and export stored energy when the grid values it most.

Electricity drawn from the grid between 11am and 2pm costs you nothing. Run your heaviest appliances, top up your battery — all at $0/kWh.
Premium feed-in at peak — 6pm to 9pm
When your battery discharges into the grid during the evening demand peak, you earn a premium feed-in tariff capped at 30 kWh. Significantly above the standard rate.
EV Off-Peak Usage — 12am to 6am
Power up for less. All usage from the timing window will be charged at the EV Off Peak Usage rate.

How it works

SolarMax doesn’t require any changes to how you live. The plan works quietly in the background — your battery and smart meter do the work.

Solar charges your battery in the morning
Your panels generate power from sunrise. Excess energy fills your battery through the morning, ready for the evening.

You use free grid power midday if needed
Between 11am and 2pm, any grid top-up costs zero. Run the dishwasher, dryer, pool pump — whatever you need.

Your battery exports at peak
Between 6pm and 9pm, you can choose to export stored
battery energy to the grid at a premium rate, with eligible earnings appearing as credits on your bill.

Charge your EV spending less
Applies only to TOU meters during EV off-peak hours (12am–6am). Controlled load meters are excluded, and any usage on them will revert to the peak rate.
How it works

The VPP Plan is a passive earning model. You don’t need to do anything differently — CovaU manages the dispatch events automatically, within your set limits.

Enrol your battery in the network
Connect your compatible battery to the CovaU VPP network. Set your home reserve minimum — we will never dispatch below that level.

Grid pressure triggers a dispatch event
During high-demand periods — typically hot summer afternoons and evenings — CovaU calls on enrolled batteries to supply energy to the grid and stabilise supply.

Your battery responds automatically
A small, controlled amount of stored energy is exported. The entire process is automated — most customers don’t notice any change at home.

You receive a bill credit
Each dispatch event earns a fixed credit applied directly to your electricity bill. Credits accumulate across all events throughout the year.

The CovaU VPP (Virtual Power Plant) Plan connects your home battery to a larger network of households. Together, these batteries act as a single flexible resource — absorbing or releasing energy when the grid needs it. You get competitive electricity rates, and earn bill credits every time your battery participates in a grid event.
