Did you know that the blade movement of your fan can be used strategically based on climate? The counter clockwise movement of the blade produces a cool breeze, ideal for summer. Meanwhile, the clockwise motion produces a gentle updraft, forcing the warm air from the ceiling down into the ground. If your fan has a reverse button, use it to operate your fan in clockwise motion to keep that warm air circulating around your home.

Install a programmable thermostat

Having a programmable thermostat at home allows you to customize heating and cooling based on your needs, making sure that heat and air conditioning are not running when you’re not there.

Let the sunlight get in

Most people think that keeping the curtains closed during winter will help lock the heat in. Whilst this is true, you can open them to your advantage. If your windows are facing south, open the curtains and blinds let that sunshine in during the mornings. Remember to close them in the evening to keep the heat in.

Wrap up your water heater

The cold season saps out the warmth of your water heater too. You can cover your water heater with an insulating blanket so it can warm water faster and keep it warm for a lot longer.
