Getting the Right Temperature at Home

Your home should be the place you feel most comfortable at; this includes getting the right temperature. You may sometimes wonder how hot your home should actually be. The answer varies of course but this article will help you get comfortably warm at home while still being on top of your energy costs.

At present, there is no current temperature prescribed by Australian government for indoor temperature. But no matter how hot your ideal temperature is, here are some key points to give you better warming systems

Insulation

You could blow up your heaters to warm your place but it still won’t be enough if you have no proper insulation. Having insulation will prevent the heat from escaping through your walls. Higher rated insulation materials mean it has better insulation capacities so this is an important consideration if you’re installing or reinstalling insulation.

Programmable Thermostat

The secret to success in achieving energy efficiency with a thermostat is in the way you use them. A thermostat works by recording the temperature around it and sending signals to your boiler to increase or decrease heat depending on the weather. Therefore, proper placement of your thermostat is necessary to ensure you’re getting the appropriate heat at home. For example, don’t face it on an area directly facing or near the window as it will be sure to send your heaters to fire up.

Window glazing

Window glazing is one of the best things to do to maximize the energy efficiency at home. Faulty doors and windows are usually home’s culprits for heat loss. Seal any cracks or damages in your windows to keep the heat inside your home longer. Windows with multiple panes of glass are typically more effective in trapping heat.

Inside and Outside Thermometer

When you have a programmed thermostat at home, it might seem unnecessary to install another thermometer outside. However, an outside thermometer will equip you with informed decisions whether it would be good to open your windows to let the air come through if the temperature outside is warmer than your home’s.
